The MAP Framework

The MAP framework is designed to guide individuals and teams on a transformative journey towards sustainable action. It's an iterative process, represented by the infinity symbol, that emphasises the interconnectedness of personal growth and collective (team) action.

MAP framework symbol

The MAP infinity sequence represents the eventual connection between the individual’s motivation and the team's rationale for climate action set within both a wider connection to nature and the system they were operating in.

This research shows us the importance of self-understanding, first through personal meaning, awareness, purpose, and then action. The MAP model is initially rooted in personal values, beliefs, attitudes, cognitions, and behaviours (Rokeach, 1973), all essential for exploring meaning and purpose which create identity.

From there, by supporting a sense of personal connection and belonging to nature, individuals re-join teams with a greater sense of urgency for change. A team who are emotionally amplified for change have the potential to clearly define a shared goal, find meaning, become aware of their need to adapt, spark a shared purpose, and get to action.
